UK Albums Chart Official Charts Company Christmas number one |
The UK Albums Chart is a list of albums ranked by physical and digital sales in the United Kingdom. Since July 1997, the official album chart has been compiled by The Official Charts Company (OCC), jointly operated by the British Phonographic Industry and the British Association of Record Dealers. Prior to this, the chart was compiled by various market research companies, including Gallup.
From October 1987, the chart was announced on Mondays at 12pm, during the Gary Davies show on BBC Radio 1, and from April to October 1993 it was given its own show, hosted by Lynn Parsons, from 7-8pm on Sundays. Since October 1993 it has been included in the UK Top 40 show from 4-7pm on Sundays.
The following albums were all number one in the United Kingdom in the 1990s.[1][2][3]
The first number-one album of this decade was ...But Seriously by Phil Collins, a holdover from 1989, first reaching number-one on 2 December 1989, and went on to stay there for eight consecutive weeks.
The last number-one album of this decade was Come On Over by Shania Twain, which saw five weeks at the top of the charts, including one week in 2000, becoming the first number-one album of the new millennium.
